For years, I struggled with the gap between who I believed I could be and who the world told me I had to be to be accepted, successful, or even lovable. I chased it all: the milestones, the dramatic “before and after,” the number on the scale. And for a moment, on national television, I had it. I lost -181 pounds as a Final Four contestant on The Biggest Loser.

But what I’ve learned since then has changed everything.
